Range Rules

The Whitehall Shooting Range is for the public benefit operated by the Jefferson Valley Sportsmen’s
Association for improvement of shooting and marksmanship skills. The facility is also utilized for youth hunter
education with emphasis on firearms safety training and the development of shooting skills. Jefferson Valley
Sportsmen’s Association is a membership organization and anyone firing on the range must have a valid
membership card in his or her possession. Members are encouraged to bring family members and guests to
enjoy shooting sports with the understanding that they are responsible for them.


The Jefferson Valley Sportsmen’s Association, its officers and directors will not be held responsible for any
or all injuries to any member or guest arising out of the use of the firing range. ALL PERSONS ENTERING
OR USING THIS RANGE, DO SO AT THEIR OWN RISK, AND ASSUME THEIR OWN LIABILITY. It is
the responsibility of each member or guest to conduct themselves in a safe manner while using the firing
facility.

 

The following range rules and procedures apply for the Whitehall Shooting Range.


Daily shooting hours for firearms ranges are: 8 AM to dusk.


All shooting will be within the designated range boundary. All users must be familiar with the range firing
area prior to shooting. All shooting will be from the designated firing lines.


To minimize the spread of weeds and erosion on the range facility, motorized vehicles are only allowed in
designated areas. Down range use of motorized vehicles is prohibited.


Be courteous of other shooters at all times and ensure that safety is the primary concern while shooting.
Clowning or trick shooting is prohibited. No horseplay is allowed on the range.


No live ammo or miss-fired ammunition is to be placed in the trash containers.


Targets used on the range will be those normally used for shooting such as paper, wood, steel gongs, etc.
Glass and other non-standard targets are prohibited. No Tannerite or explosives. Do not place your target in
front of the target supports. No shotgun use on target supports.


Eye and ear protection are strongly recommended when firing.


No alcohol or drug usage is allowed in or near the range during shooting activities.


Shooters are responsible for the disposal of their targets, empty casings or any other items brought to the
range. Help keep the facility clean.

Report violations to the Jefferson County Sheriff at 406-287-3555.

Failure to follow the range rules will result in the loss of membership and shooting privileges at the range.

Waiver

Waiver & Release Agreement (Do not sign if you do not understand; you are free to seek legal counsel.)


In compliance and consideration for the use of the JVSA Shooting Range facilities. I understand that there are inherent
risks and hazards involved in shooting sports. The danger as much as policies exist and cannot be eliminated, such as
(Injury, damage, or death, Ear injury, Eye injury)


I acknowledge the possible risks, hazards, and dangers that may be involved in using firearms and being near others
that are using firearms, and I hereby assume all risks of injury or death. Also, I understand that activities at JVSA
Range may require good physical conditioning.


I, my associates, guests, and/or family members understand and have read the JVSA Shooting Range rules and safety
zones and agree to this waiver and understand that we are to always conduct ourselves in a responsible manner with
safety as the priority. I also acknowledge that the JVSA and any of its directors are NOT responsible for any of my
personal property. Guests are required to sign a range waiver form that are available at the range sign-in box.


I agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and defend the JVSA and any of its directors, officers or agents from all faults,
liability, costs, expenses, claims, demands, or lawsuits arising out of, related to, or connected with the use of firearms,
the range, and/or JVSA premises. I will indemnify, hold harmless, and defend the JVSA from any and all costs,
expenses, and liability including, but not limited to, the cost of any settlement or judgment made or rendered against
the JVSA, whether individually, jointly, or together with all costs of court and other costs or expenses incurred in
connection with any such claim, demand, or lawsuit, including attorney’s fees.


I sign this form with full knowledge and understanding of the contents herein. I hereby declare that my participation in
this activity is purely voluntary and without any inducement of consideration or coercion. I have full knowledge and
assume all the risks and dangers involved in the activity that I may sustain or incur during the activity, whether as a
participant or as a spectator.


I have read and agree with the waiver and release and am knowledgeable of firearm safety and can legally possess a
firearm and understand this shooting range privilege may be revoked at any time by the JVSA Board of Directors.

Whitehall Shooting Range

$25.00 Annual Membership is a family membership: you, your spouse and kids 18 or younger living at home.


Memberships expire December 31 each year
